The year 2012 is here and it contains the last symmetrical date for a while.  So in honor of 12-12-12 I wanted to do a special running goal.  Something achievable while still very challenging.  Something that mirrored the symmetry of the date in December. Then it hit me: 12 – 1/2 – 12 12 – [...]

I completed my first half marathon of the challenge last weekend (which I will post about later).  I’m very excited to say that I met another person who had the same goal.  We spent an entire indoor race passing each other and finished within a minute of each other.

While we were talking we decided to start using the hashtag #12half12 on twitter when speaking of the race.

So a few people who are participating:

  • Zenaida from Run.Teach.Live
  • Kristen Kinnear-Ohlmann who is on dailymile as kkinnea
  • Renee (my running partner from this weekend’s race) on twitter as NeeToday

If you want to join in, please do.  You can be doing 12 half marathons it as part of another challenge.  Or maybe you just happen to do 12 half marathons a year anyways. Doing 1 a month, or doing all 12 in december.  We would love to cheer you on.

Who is doing a half in the second half of January?

Half Marathon Fanatics

Half Fanatics

While the 12.1/2.12 challenge requires only that the distances be half marathon or longer and does not necessarily require official races.  Runners who participate in official half marathons can qualify to join the Half Fanatics Club.

Running even 3 half marathons in a 90 day period qualifies you for the Neptune (entry) level.  If you run 12 official half marathons in 365 days, you can qualify for the Saturn level.  The Criteria has other qualifying standards.  The Jupiter standard is met if you race half marathons in 9 different states/countries/provinces within 365 days (A possibility for those in the New England States)

The membership costs $35 and has yearly dues of $10.

The Runners: Miriam Wilcox

Name: Miriam Wilcox

Location: New Hampshire, USA

Bio: The person behind the challenge, and the person blogging on this site.  Miriam came up with the challenge because she is so accident prone.  Two years in a row she was sidelined for months because she set her sights on 50k trail races.  With this challenge she hopes to be able to enjoy a full year of healthy racing, by running her favorite race distance month after month.

A division I rower in college and a rower and hockey player in high school, she used to do everything she could to get out of running for cross-training.  Now she loves to explore on her own two feet with her standard poodle Cooper.

Trying to come up with some graphics that people can display on their website if they are participating in, or supporting the challenge.  If you come up with your own logo that others can use, please send it to me.

The year 2012 is here and it contains the last symmetrical date for a while.  So in honor of 12-12-12 I wanted to do a special running goal.  Something achievable while still very challenging.  Something that mirrored the symmetry of the date in December.

Then it hit me:

12 – 1/2 – 12

12 – Half Marathons – 2012

Want to join me? The rules I plan on following are simple:

  • Run 12 races of half marathon distance or longer in 2012

That’s it. I’m not a slave driver.

  • Walk the whole way
  • Train as little as you want
  • Set up your own races
  • Do them on road, trail, snowshoe
  • Count marathons as two half marathons (one reader plans on doing this)

I plan on using this site to chronicle my own adventures with this challenge.  But if you want to join in the fun, let me know you plan on joining in.  We can help motivate each other as we lace up our running shoes and join the crowds.

Leave a comment on this post with the blog or training log on which you plan on sharing your progress.  I’ll add you to a list on this site.  I might end up on my own, but I’ll have fun doing it.

I love you Google escort escort escort escort escort escort escort escort escort
